Guatemala, Comalapa market church
Guatemala, indigenous market and church.
Iglesia Colonial church in San Juan Comalapa has a sad heritage. Over 200 people were “disappeared” here by the military in Guatemala’s 30-year civil war, ending in 1996. Many parts of Guatemala are still lawless. Because of bandits, the mountainous route to Comalapa is considered so dangerous that our hired car was escorted by 2 policemen on a motorcycle with semi-automatic guns slung over their shoulders.
